The Ministry of Education in partnership with Open Learning Exchange Rwanda and Shuttleworth Foundation (Siyavula Education Project) is organizing a consultative meeting for the localization of Siyavula digital education resources to Rwanda. The meeting is scheduled for the 27th and 28th July 2009.
The two days consultative meeting will bring together ICTs in Education Stakeholders from the Ministry of Education, partners’ organizations, delegations from Shuttleworth foundation South Africa and OLE International. The purpose of the proposed consultative meeting is to present officially these education resources, to identify the overall work to be done for their contextualization, to bring together all stakeholders and to strategize how these resources can meet learning and teaching needs for quality basic education in Rwanda.
Regarding the localization of Siyavula education resources, we shall identify innovations to be strengthened, gaps to be filled, and develop teacher support training that shall assist to effectively use them. A designed road map shall assign tasks and responsibilities, set time frame, estimate cost for localization and use of these resources and put in place working groups and monitoring and evaluation framework.
An ongoing pre-assessment of selected Sciences modules being done by OLE Rwanda and the NCDC on the value of the above mentioned education resources in Rwanda highlighted the importance of these resources both in terms of innovations, methodologies and provision of a complete set of supportive education materials (National curriculum statements, Learner module, Lessons plan, work schedule and teacher’s guide) adapted to all aspects of teaching and learning as well as the potential for these resources to be used digitally and as printed materials.
